MITSUMI ELECTRIC CO., LTD., a MinebeaMitsumi Group company, has developed the "MM436x Series," a next-generation protection IC for 1-cell lithium-ion and lithium-polymer secondary batteries, designed to meet the evolving requirements of mobile devices such as smartphones and wearables.
In recent years, as battery capacities have increased, lithium-ion batteries featuring high-capacity "silicon anodes"—replacing conventional graphite anodes—have become increasingly widespread. However, degradation in the low-voltage range has been a known challenge for silicon anode batteries. The "MM436x Series" is equipped with innovative functions that efficiently bring out the characteristics of these next-generation batteries and enhance product reliability.

1. "Overdischarge Detection Voltage (UVP) Switching Function" Compatible with Silicon Anode Batteries
The overdischarge detection voltage (UVP) can be dynamically switched based on signals from the system side. While the electronic device is operating, the overdischarge detection voltage threshold is lowered to prevent false detection of overdischarge caused by transient voltage drops. This maximizes the full potential of silicon anode batteries—their high capacity—to achieve longer device operating times. Conversely, during standby mode, the overdischarge detection voltage threshold is raised to avoid operation in low-voltage ranges prone to degradation, thereby extending the lifespan of silicon anode batteries.
2. "Ship Mode" to Prevent Power Consumption During Long-Term Storage in Battery Pack Status, Combined with Enhanced Convenience
Equipped with a "Ship Mode" that significantly reduces current consumption during transportation and long-term storage. Notably, in addition to the conventional wake-up method via charger connection, a new wake-up function activated by "long-pressing the power button" has been added. This offers high convenience, allowing users to start up the device directly upon arrival without a charger.
