MITSUMI ELECTRIC, MinebeaMitsumi Group Company, Develops "MM422x Series" High-Accuracy, Ultra-Small Package Lithium-Ion Battery Protection IC
-Achieving Improved Device Safety and Space Savings with Industry-Leading Detection Voltage Accuracy and Compact Package

MITSUMI ELECTRIC CO., LTD., a member of the MinebeaMitsumi Group, has announced the "MM422x Series" of battery protection ICs for 1-cell lithium-ion and lithium polymer secondary batteries, offering high voltage detection accuracy and a miniaturized package.

In recent years, as smartphones and wearable devices have become increasingly high-performance, secondary batteries installed in these devices are required to offer higher safety and more efficient operation. To meet these needs, the newly developed "MM422x Series" has pursued "high safety" and "space saving" to the absolute limit by combining proprietary circuit design technology with advanced packaging technology.

Key Features

1. High-Accuracy Current Detection via Sense Resistor

This series adopts a high-accuracy current detection method using an external current sensing resistor. It achieves an extremely high accuracy of ±0.75 mV (at an ambient temperature of 25°C) for discharge overcurrent detection voltage 1. This allows for lower resistance values in the sense resistor, achieving both low loss and space savings.

2. Optimal System Protection with 3-Stage Discharge Overcurrent Protection

Equipped with a three-stage discharge overcurrent protection system—Discharge Overcurrent 1, Discharge Overcurrent 2, and Short-Circuit Protection—it enables flexible protection settings tailored to the device's usage conditions, balancing both safety and convenience.

3. Adoption of World's Smallest-Class, Low-Profile SSON-6S Package in DFN (Dual Flat No-lead)

It utilizes a DFN package featuring an ultra-small, low-profile form factor with package dimensions of 1.2 mm × 1.2 mm and a maximum thickness of 0.4 mm, offering excellent mountability. Minimizing the PCB footprint contributes to greater flexibility in board design.

4. Industry-Leading Low Current Consumption*

With an operating current consumption of 2.0 μA (typical), current consumption has been reduced by approximately 20% compared to our conventional products. This contributes to extending device operating time, such as improving smartphone battery life.

* Based on company's research (comparison of five major protection IC manufacturers as of 2026)

Main Applications

Smartphones, tablets, True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds, and other devices
