This exhibition was made possible after yooolk's work was selected for the "Blue Marble Creator Matching Program," an artist open-call initiative planned and directed by Blue Marble. Starting in June 2026, seven units from the SALIOT S3 series will illuminate yooolk's artwork for approximately two years, maximizing the allure of both the piece and its surrounding space.
"SALIOT" is a smart LED lighting brand developed by MinebeaMitsumi. Its greatest feature is the ability to smoothly and remotely control not only brightness (dimming) and color temperature (color tuning) but also the light's direction (pan/tilt) and beam angle via devices like smartphones and tablets—a capability achieved by integrating our long-cultivated ultra-precision mechanical and wireless technologies.
As an "INTEGRATED* precision components manufacturer" —integrating ultra-precision machining technology with a wide range of advanced technologies—MinebeaMitsumi will continue to add new value to lighting. We remain committed to delivering products that serve artists, lighting professionals at museums and galleries, industry specialists, and people in their everyday lives alike.

Title of the Artwork:Bonsai of Reflected Light (Kyoyo no Matsu)
Following over 20 years of creative work centered on digital animation—including his time with the creative unit AC-bu—yooolk has expanded his practice into spatial expression that interweaves video, painting, objects, and light in recent years.
Set against the freedom and brilliance inherent to Harajuku, along with its historic atmosphere of embracing people who choose to redefine themselves upon its streets, this project constructs a three-dimensional facade space using the bonsai as its motif. Measuring approximately 4.6 meters wide, 2.3 meters high, and 60 centimeters deep, the installation creates a multi-dimensional layer of light and reflection across Laforet Harajuku's entrance.
By layering mirrored materials, acrylics, and lighting, the piece evokes light pouring down from the sky, tracing the silhouette of the bonsai and coloring its leaves while simultaneously overlaying onto the viewers themselves. One's reflection in the mirror is not merely shown as it is; rather, it merges with the light, the silhouette of the bonsai, and Harajuku's signature pop color palette, emerging as an integral part of the artwork. Observing this reflection prompts viewers to refocus on their own presence within the streets of Harajuku, guiding them through a grounding and refreshing experience.
This installation uses light and reflection to draw a parallel between the nature of a bonsai—which shapes its own authentic form within a confined space by meticulously pruning its branches and leaves—and the way people stand authentically as individuals within a vast metropolis.
For this artwork, lighting cooperation is provided by MinebeaMitsumi Inc.'s IoT lighting fixture brand, "SALIOT." Moving spotlights installed on the ceiling tracks gently illuminate the piece; the light reflecting off the acrylic mirrors combined with the subtle shifting of shadows cast on the walls and floor breathes a sense of life into the bonsai. Utilizing SALIOT's unique ability to control the direction and brightness of light, subtle and delicate changes are integrated into how the artwork and space are perceived.
By blending traditional Japanese bonsai imagery with the pop aesthetics unique to Harajuku, the installation creates a photogenic facade experience, allowing both domestic and international visitors to truly feel that they are "standing in Harajuku, Japan."
