Announcement concerning Explosion at the plant of New Hampshire Ball Bearings, Inc., our U.S. subsidiary

Minebea Co., Ltd. (Minebea) hereby announces that the Peterborough facility of New Hampshire Ball Bearings Inc. (NHBB), Minebea's U.S. subsidiary, experienced an explosion. A brief summary of the accident is as follows:

Date/time of accident: around 3:30 p.m. on February 10, 2014 (U.S. Eastern Standard Time)
around 5:30 a.m. on February 11, 2014 (Japan time)
Place of accident: First floor of the Peterborough plant at NHBB
Location of plant: 175 Jaffrey Road, Peterborough, New Hampshire 03458-1709 U.S.A.
Number of employees: 712 (as of December 31, 2013)
Principle line of business: Engaged in an integrated manufacturing ranging from processing to assembly of aircraft components such as bearings for the U.S. market primarily
Injuries: 15 in total, as detailed below:
Severely injured: 2 (being treated at hospital)
Slightly injured: 13
  • Nobody is in danger of losing their lives, including those being treated at hospital.
  • There is no continuation of fire, or spreading of fire, etc.
  • As for the cause of the explosion, investigations are underway by the fire department, etc.
  • The plant has stopped its operations and we would like to resume plant operations as soon as the investigations into the cause of the accident is completed.
  • With regard to the timing for resuming plant operations, we will report to you after the end of aforementioned investigations.
  • Investigations are currently underway as to the details of the damage and we have received a report that there is certain damage to the part of the assembly processes.
